A beautiful place to be

With continued snow I have not spent any time crafting at the studio this week.
I did drive up there and pick up some stash to play with at home, but brain obviously wasn't working and although I brought plenty home, I forgot some vital and even some stuff to post out.
I did however fall in love yet again with the view and took some photos. I am sharing them so you might know a little of why I love this place.
These were taken at the studios on Wednesday, the snow was not deep, the paths had all been gritted but it was cold.

It does look equally pretty for Summer School, so I am going to make a brew and settle down to get Summer School details on the Website, I think I better those who came last year have been pestering me for dates so they can get booked early for this year.

clocking up the years

This weeks blog post features two of the ladies who have possibly done more lessons with me than any of my other students. Both began coming to a weekly class back in the days when I ran a shop and taught there too. Here are some photos Ben took of them at one of the classes in the new studio.

It is good to see them concentrating so hard.

They don't usually sit together or work together particularly, I guess this week they found themselves next to each other.

It is amazing what bonds form in group like this and what support there is in the craft world.

These two have been a great help over those years, I have lost count of how many times they have made the tea, washed up or cleaned the stamps.

They seem to manage to make most of my open days and have been there to cheer me right through the history of Oak House Studio.

Take a bow Pauline and Barbara.

Sorry to be missing in action yet again! I have been through an unexpected move which came out of the blue but was full of uncertainty which made it difficult to share with you all. It started with an off the cuff remark from a fellow artist at the farm, when she commented how much she loved my room there. For my part I love her room and offered to swap on the spot. Many weeks later I am now in the "new room" but with still some work to do to getting exactly how I want my room to be. But I am certainly "getting there" the old room is empty and now awaiting a tidy up before ceramicist Alison Brice takes up residence, probably some time in May.
If you fancy a look for yourself then come along on 6th May for a major sale and warehouse clearance. Refreshments on sale for £1 in aid of Breast Cancer Care. Why not come along and see our latest stamp designs and find out about classes we have coming up?
I guess that means I better get on and get those jobs finished.

ENJOY what you DO

I needed a few get well cards or cards to encourage friends who were facing a difficult time. This made me decide to dig out the inspirational word stamps to make some thing I could mail out to them. This was the spring board for my classes.

This weeks stamping classes have been exploring using the Oak House Studio pigment inks on Linen card.
We started by colouring the linen card with the pigment ink and then over stamped with a  selection of our palette and texture stamps. The texture of the card really stood out with ink.

We then used some inspiring sentiment stamps including the new Enjoy stamp to create cards or postcard sized affirmations to frame.

Both classes seemed to enjoy the workshop and we hope to extend the technique at next weeks classes.

If you would like to join me for a workshop check out www.vip-stamping.co.uk or email me at lynnda@oakhousestudio.co.uk

The Enjoy stamp will be available from Sunday when we will be at the Ross Papercraft Show at Leeds Grammar School

Farm Watch : The older bull some of us call Simon was really enjoying a good scratch again a tree yesterday. He was really enjoying it a few us stopped to watch this might beast enjoying the simple pleasures of a good scratch in the sunshine. Much to everyone amazement the tree fell over and lay there roots and all. The old bull looked puzzled and wander away look at the fallen tree very sheepishly trying to look as innocent as possible.

get sorted for 2012

I have been working on a teaching calendar for 2012. Calf House Artists have met to fix dates for Summer school etc. and so I can tell that I will be teaching summer school in July AND August. If you can't wait that long then here is an image from my Club Class group, these guys meet on Wednesdays for just two hours. Here is last weeks project.

The idea was to learn about masking and wet in wet water colour techniques. I do like to show them something they haven't tried before or get them to re visit products they haven't used recently.

As they come every week they tend to be the folks who get to see what's new round here first plus they get at least 10% off everything they buy at the studio, and chance to book other workshops ahead of the crowd, now you know why they call it VIP Club Class.
